Thanks to Mr. Omar, we were able to secure our spot, have the tomb opened and we paid $100 US Dollars. We then cruised the waters of the river Nile from Luxor to Aswan via the Sonesta St. George. We enjoyed all the temples that were included with the cruise, along with a few others that were added to our itinerary, of course Abu Simbel being one of them. Last, we enjoyed an over day trip to Alexandria. Right from the start, Gat tours had our best interest in mind. Mr. Omar met us at Cairo International, himself and helped us through customs. The guides he paired us with were phenomenal. Sayed was our Egyptologist in Cairo and Alexandria, while Hassan was our guide from Luxor to Aswan. We had the same guides and drivers so we came to know them as family over the twelve days we spent in Egypt. I would highly recommend Gat Tours. Mr. Omar made my childhood dream of traveling to Egypt come true. Now for the nitty gritty: 1) Expect very long days, lots of walking, unless you’re only doing a cruise. Last be ready to listen. There is over 5000 years worth of history in Egypt. You will learn all about it over the course of your trip. Your mind must be ready to absorb it all within days. Having knowledge of what you are about to see only allows for you to enjoy the experience even better. 2) Expect early morning wake-ups. In order to see everything Egypt has to offer, you must wake early. Cairo is very busy with loads of people. Traffic is horrible. Therefore, in order to get where you need to be, you must arise very early. Most of our days started anywhere from 4AM-6AM. Note: It’s still pretty hot in Oct-Nov so drink plenty water. LOL! 3) Private Tour! Did I say private? From Cairo, Aswan to Alexandria, our tour was completely private. Even when you book a cruise, the cruise offers guides as you will dock and tour temples along the way. This is pretty typical of most cruises. Sometimes, I saw groups of 10 to 20 people with one Egyptologist. However, our tour was completely private which made our experience more personable. 4) Beware, Egypt has a census of 92 Million people. Many of the locals are poor. You will see many people begging or trying to sale you items. Therefore, just know that you will be asked to buy something wherever you go. Tipping is the way of life in Egypt. Just to be advised. The people aren’t too pushy. Just say no thank you or La Shukrun and the people will let you be. The guides never leave your side. They are with you 100 of the way. They are very helpful and want to assist you in every way. From suggestions on where to eat to suggestions on where to purchase a cartouche. They are there to assist you every step of the way. Furthermore, they ensure that the beggars don't badger you, which can be overwhelming for some. Overall, Egypt is extremely safe, unlike what’s portrayed in the news. The people are so nice and friendly. I cannot wait to return. 5) We booked 5 star hotel accommodations which lived up to every star of my American standard. One small issue which has nothing to do with Gat tours. There is a lot of smoking in Egypt. Smoking seems to be allowed everywhere. I never encountered such smoking is all of my life. Just note, smoking is also allowed at many of the hotel facilities. DO NOTE, ALL of our rooms were clean and smoke free. We loved all of our accommodations. FANCY SMANCY! Thank you to Mr. Ahmed Omar & GAT Tours for organizing such a memorable trip with SUCH AMAZING SERVICE. We look forward to seeing you next year! I have included pictures of our memorable journey!

Mr Ahmed Omar responded immediately to each and every question (and I had many over the 7 months of planning our trip), presented an itinerary which exactly met our needs, provided a price that was much less than other tour groups, and then delivered in a way that far exceeded our expectations. With Ahmed meeting us at the airport, whisking us through security, tracking down our mis-placed baggage, and personally taking us to our hotel we knew we would be in good hands. We did a 4 day/3 night Nile Cruise on the Amwaj Livingstone and had our own Egyptologist - Hassan Amin who made all the difference in the trip. There were plenty of other guides on our boat but it was clear the Hassan was a cut above the rest. He is a brilliant man and knows how to bring the temples to life. We usually had a few other tourists stop to listen in on his stories. He also helped with the notoriously difficult task of navigating the local vendors - letting us know what was good quality, what was a good deal, chose horse and buggy drivers that seemed to care about their animals. We had just a few hours on our return to Cairo to see the pyramids and visit the museum but again, Ahmed worked hard to make sure we thoroughly enjoyed every minute - equipping us with a wonderful driver and another brilliant Egyptologist Manar whose knowledge, enthusiasm, and love of what she does was infectious. If Egypt is on your bucket list - go now! The prices are amazing, the sites are impeccably maintained, security is abundant, the Egyptians are excited to see you there, and people like Ahmed, Hassan, and Manar are just waiting to help create the trip of a lifetime.

He customized this tour package for us, making changes along the way and seeing where all he could upgrade us at all times (like, complimentary hotel accommodation at Le Passage hotel at Cairo Int'l Airport on the day of departure).   Services provided to us by GAT Tours was exceptional and the tour guides (Maanal in Giza, Cairo and Alexandria) and Ahmed Ali (in some of the most significant sites along the Nile from Aswan to Luxor) were professional, punctual, friendly and very knowledgeable. Both guides spoke English very well and provided a wealth of information on the rich history of this ancient civilization. The Nile cruise (Boat - Blue Shadow) from Aswan to Luxor was fantastic with friendly staff, clean rooms and great foods.  I must also mention the name of two gentlemen (Bassam and Imad) who drove us around in Cairo (considering traffic condition on Cairo Street) very comfortably and safely- which is much appreciated. In last few years, we have travelled several countries in Asia and Europe (Australia, China, Malaysia, India, England, France, Netherlands, Switzerland and Spain) used different tour operators -  GAT Tours is undoubtedly one of the best organized tour company, we have come across. GAT Tours provided us with a very personalized and excellent service - they honored all their commitments.   This trip was an unforgettable experience for me and my wife. Thanks to GAT tours, we were treated to some of the most significant sites along the Nile in a professional, organized and safe manner. The guides spoke English well and provided a wealth of information on the rich history of this ancient civilization. We had barely deplaned when we were met by Mr. Ahmed Omar at approximately 2:45 AM. He guided us through customs, security and passport control. We were walked through each hotel check-in, as well as our Nile cruise. Very seamless! Internal flights on Air Egypt were on time – no delays – and luggage arrived safely. All guides and drivers were routinely early. GAT arranged for our Nile river cruise on the steamboat Sudan. This was fabulous and we strongly recommend! The boat was built in 1885 and was peaceful, quiet and relaxing. We paid for a lower deck room, but Mr. Omar arranged for us to be upgraded to the upper deck. Lovely room and the staff on this boat are amazing! The food is a gourmet experience. Perfect! Two more examples of how a GAT guide enhanced our experience: at the Mosque of Ibn Tulun, we found that the access to the minaret was locked. Our guide went to one of the security guards and requested a key to allow us access. We took some lovely pictures of old Cairo from that viewpoint. The second example is when we asked to walk through the old market - Khan al-Khalili. The guide asked a uniformed officer to accompany us through the market presumably to ensure our safety - though at no time did we feel unsafe. Afterwards, the guide asked if we wanted to have something to drink at a nearby café. This was NOT a place for tourists, but did offer us the opportunity to sit with the locals and enjoy a mint lemonade...so charming (and so good)! We toured major sites at Luxor, as well as a variety of temples all along the Nile on the way to Aswan. In at least one case, we visited a temple in the evening when it was lit up. This was enchanting. The only thing I wish had been included was Hatshepsut’s temple on the west bank. This temple was so close to the Valley of the Kings, but was not included in our tour. Bottom line, GAT runs like a well-oiled machine. They take extra measures to ensure a wonderful experience with your comfort and safety in mind. We highly recommend!

(Perhaps some Egyptians that we hear about are NOT Egyptians.) Four Seasons Hotel, and again its staff, were just as what they can proudly claim. Al-Mudirah in Luxur must be listed as a place of interest to see along with other sites in Luxur. As I have been thinking about it, I have a growing admiration for the place: Unusual, sophisticated, with so many objects to look at carefully in one's own room. The walk in the garden; the courtyard where we ate; the buildings that I walked by. All memories now. Al-Jounah is a lovely resort. However, it is not for me. It suits a Western family with children, raised with the idea of a compulsory holiday and manufactured happiness. The only restaurant that was open was an ALL-you-can-eat food bazaar---and distastefully, people ate even more than a "khenzir" could. Al-Jounah was my mistake. I had mistakenly assumed that Al-Jounah was more secluded and quiet than Dhahab. Thank you for arranging the car trip back to Cairo. I wanted to feel the land of Egypt. I am grateful to you, Sir. The most painful part of my trip was to leave Egypt and say goodbye to my friend Tawfiq. Truly, Sayyid Tawfiqina min Allah, aydhan. May you all be healthy and see a happier Egypt. The added personal touch of having you or one of the GAT representatives in each city greet us at the airports and settle us in the hotels was very helpful. Despite much international travel, our first arrival in a new country provokes some anxiety as to what we will find as we leave the plane. The personal touch completely eliminated this anxiety. We also appreciated the late model vans and the safety awareness of the drivers as traffic patterns are very different from the USA and Europe. All of our other international travel had been on our own and this was our first experience as part of a tour. We were not exactly sure what to expect but this is certainly the way to experience the diversity of Egypt. On our arrival in Cairo we were delighted to have a view of the Pyramids at both Giza and Saqqara from our hotel room balcony. The visit to these pyramids and Sphinx the next day was simply fantastic. Having our own personal guide for our group of four certainly added to our experience. The knowledge of all the guides was very high and they were sensitive to our needs and wishes for any adjustments to the normal schedule. After our experience in Cairo we thought that would be easily the high point of the trip. However we think the Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor parallels the Cairo experience. Not only was the cruise itself relaxing and enjoyable but the tours of a number of temples as well as the Valley of the Queens and Valley of the Kings along the way was an experience not to be missed. Having history come alive in this way was very enjoyable and neither of us had been history buffs before. The break to visit Hurghada and experience the Red Sea was a very relaxing time. We felt very pampered at the magnificent resort where service, food and amenities were top notch. We experienced a ride to 25 meters under the Red Sea in a submarine to view the coral and fish population. A unique experience. The ten day trip was a great way to gain an overview of Egyptian history and culture but we now have an appetite for a more in-depth visit to some of the sites. Of particular interest are the Museum of Antiquities and the Library in Alexandria. The short visit to Port Said showed us that we would like to spend some time on a Mediterranean beach. We felt very welcomed by all we met and are pleased to now have a number of new Egyptian friends, beginning with you. Our sincere thanks to you for all the effort you put into making our trip enjoyable. We will definitely recommend a trip to Egypt through GAT Tours to all of our friends.
