We are proud in fact to offer this Alexandria city tour from Cairo, as travelers who spend their vacation in Egypt can see our rare Greco-Roman monuments.

Morning time, you will be met with GAT Tours’ expert, Egyptologist, tour guide, who will accompany you along the way to the coastal city of Alexandria. In this remarkable tour, you’ll see some of the best-preserved remains of Roman architecture in the Middle East. Explore its Roman temples, theaters & arches.

This amazing tour to Alexandria starts with a visit to Pompey’s Pillar which is column raised in 300 A.D. in honor of Emperor Diocletian, who saved the city of Alexandria from a frightful famine. On the western side of the column is engraved, “To the just Emperor, the god of Alexandria, the invincible Diocletian”. Nevertheless it was called Pompey’s Pillar by the French under certain mistaken impression regarding Pompey’s head.

We will then move to visit the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, this necropolis consists of a series of Alexandrian tombs, statues and archaeological objects of the Pharaonic funeral cult with Hellenistic and early Imperial Roman influences.

It is the break-time, so we will transfer you to one of the best local tourist restaurants in Alexandria to have your lunch meal. You can choose your preferred dish, however, for sure we highly recommend you to eat fish, as the city of Alexandria is very famous with fish restaurants and markets.

After that, we will be moving to visit the Roman Amphitheater, located in the modern area of Kom El-Dikaa, and dating back to the 2nd century A.D. We will also have a visit to the newly-opened Library of Alexandria.

Depends on time, we may include a visit to the most famous Qaitbey Citadel, which were built by Sultan Qaitbay to protect Egypt from the enemies coming from the north or those who use the sea to conquer it thorough the northern borders.

Finally, we will drive back to Cairo, transfer you to your hotel for rest and refresh. Evening time is free at leisure on your own, so you can relax at hotel or you can go for a walking tour around the hotel.
