The competition Details
The competition consists of 32 teams, they will split into eight groups of four teams to have two groups in each venue.
The 32 teams are divided into eight groups of four teams. Each venue hosts two groups of the preliminary round, which is played from 13 to 19 January.
There will be 3 top teams that will move on from the respective preliminary round to the main round which will be held on 20 to 25 January, while the other teams that ranked them last in the preliminary round will play in the President’s Cup. Then they will split the other 24 teams into four groups of six teams each.
The knock-out stage starts with the quarter-finals on 27 January and will get plated by the top two teams of the main round, then the competition will continue till the semi-finals on 29 January. The finals will get played on the 31st of January when we will finally know who will take third place and who will be on the top and take the gold medal.
The champion countries in the past 20 years
In each championship, there was only one country that took the gold medal and won the whole competition. In the past 20 years, France was the champion for about 5 times in the years of 2001, 2009, 2011, 2015, and 2017 all in different host countries.
We can find also special participation for Spain as they won the gold medal 2 times in the past 20 years in 2013 and 2005.
There are also different countries that won the gold medal through the past 20 years like Denmark which was the champion in 2019 that was held in Denmark and Germany.
In 2007 Germany was the champion for this year in the World Men’s Handball Championship that was held in Germany
Croatia Also had the chance in 2003 to win the competition and got the gold medal in Portugal
And the first country in the past 20 years to win the gold medal was Sweden which participated in 1999 in the World Men’s Handball Championship that was held in Egypt.
